Canva ships its own MCP server, hosted at https://mcp.canva.com/mcp. Canva calls it the AI Connector. It's listed in Claude's connectors directory, and it also works in ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Cursor and Claude Code. You sign in with OAuth, so there's no API key to manage and no community server worth picking over it.

For marketers, the useful part is the chain: generate a design from a prompt, resize it for Instagram Stories and LinkedIn, then export PNGs, all in one chat. It can also search your existing designs, pull the text out of an old deck to repurpose it, merge decks, and read comments. On paid plans it searches your Brand Templates, and on Canva Enterprise it can autofill them with data, like 10 social posts from one template and a spreadsheet.

My go-to: paste a blog post, ask Claude for three quote cards in your brand template, resize each to 1080x1920, export. Pair it with the WordPress MCP to push the finished post live, or read how Canva is growing into a full marketing suite on our blog.

Watch out for two things. Generate design runs on Magic Design and uses your Canva AI credits, and on team accounts an admin has to switch the AI Connector on. Don't mix it up with Canva's Developer MCP server, which is for building Canva apps, not for making designs.

Canva AI Connector

The official hosted server is the one to use. It covers design generation, search, resize, export and Brand Templates, and it signs in with OAuth. Canva also has a separate Developer MCP server, but that one helps you build Canva apps and Connect API integrations, so skip it unless you're writing code for Canva.

How to set up the Canva MCP Server

1. Claude / claude.ai: go to Settings → Connectors, find Canva, connect and sign in. Then turn Canva on in a chat's connector menu. 2. Claude Code, add the remote server and sign in with /mcp:
